Strategic Planning Committee Seeks Members' Input

The ATHE Strategic Planning Committee wants to know how ATHE can best support you and achieve its mission “to support and advance the study and practice of theatre and performance in higher education.”

In the coming weeks, the committee will be asking targeted questions of you, ATHE members, based on the association's six stated goals (The goals are listed on the page at this link). The academy is changing right before our eyes, and we need to know if ATHE is doing all it can to serve you.

The committee recently asked for feedback on Goal One, but all of the goals and the questions related to each goal are posted on the Strategic Plan Discussion Forum on the ATHE website.

Then, navigate to the Strategic Plan Discussion Forum. (Scroll over About > Our Goals > Strategic Plan Discussion Forum. Click.) You can also reach the Strategic Plan Discussion Forum at this link:

(Please note: In order to reply to posts on the forum, you must be signed in to the ATHE website. For help signing in, please contact Shaun Franklin-Sewell at

If you have questions regarding the strategic plan or the strategic planning committee’s process, please don’t hesitate to contact

Help Create Intimate Acts, A Banned Play Reading Event at Conference 2014

Between now and the 2014 conference, your help is needed to create "Intimate Acts" a banned play reading event. Through the shared reading of works at the edges of “acceptability," including Amiri Baraka's The Great Goodness of Life, Cherríe Moraga's Heart of the Earth, Luis Valdez's Zoot Suit, and Virginia Grise and Irma Mayorga's Panza Monologue, the banned play reading event will offer a space to connect, reflect, and make meaning collectively.

What is your favorite banned play? And, what makes your favorite banned play so controversial?

Let us know on the Banned Play Discussion Forum at
