Governing Council Approves ATHE Technology Plan

At its mid-year meetings, the ATHE Governing Council voted to approve a new Technology Plan for the organization. The Technology Plan evaluates ATHE's current technology resources and presents recommendations for the strategic use of technology and technology-related programming.

The plan was developed in part through the use of a survey conducted in November and December of 2013. This survey revealed a general level of satisfaction with ATHE’s current technology resources but also provided some concrete ideas on ways in which we might enhance the services we provide to members.

The recommendations of the plan call on the Electronic Technology Committee to play a more active role in the consistent and sustained review of the ATHE website’s functionality, usefulness, and accuracy. Additionally, while there are no significant new investments in technology that are required at this time, the plan asks for ATHE leadership to continue to seek opportunities to use our existing resources to better serve the membership. Such opportunities could include the increased use of webinars through the website or training and professional development sessions at the annual conference to address technology-related changes in the field. Overall, the plan recommends more intentional processes and consciousness about the use and impact of technology within the association.

The approval of the plan coincided with the process of migrating to a new ATHE website hosted on the platform. A subcommittee of the Governing Council considered potential improvements to the site and endorsed a number of changes to ensure that marketing capabilities have been maximized and that ease of usefulness for members is enhanced. Following completion of focus group leaders training on the new site, the organization will shift from reliance on Focus Group and Committee listservs to the use of “forums” hosted on the website. Forums provide expanded communication capabilities and allow members to personalize the manner in which they access postings. More information on the move to forums will be forthcoming in the coming months.
