In August, ATHE's Governing Council voted to change the name of the focus group formerly known as Senior Theatre Research and Performance (STRP) to Wellness, Community, and Aging (WCA). According to WCA Conference Planner Andrew Gaines, “The scope of our focus group has evolved and matured considerably since its inception. We’re more engaged with the related theories and practices of community-based theatre, drama therapy, and theatre that informs human development across the lifespan, such as intergenerational theatre.” WCA's renewed mission is also committed to the wellness of theatre artists and applied theatre practitioners. The WCA focus group also advocates for the dismantling of stereotypes in the representations of age, health, and wellness on stage.

The WCA seeks to connect and collaborate with ATHE members and other Focus Groups whose work overlaps with their mission. Renaming the focus group Wellness, Community, and Aging clarifies the group's values and aims to coalesce ATHE’s membership around this critical praxis.
