From Your Member-at-Large for Outreach - Emily Rollie
Thursday, September 12, 2019
As the new ATHE Member-at-Large for Outreach, I’m eager to dive into the role, supporting previous initiatives so fabulously supported by outgoing MAL Outreach Shawna Mefferd Kelty and developing new partnerships.
Most immediately, my task is liaising with the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) regions, specifically coordinating the annual ATHE/KCACTF Prize for Innovative Teaching. Two awards – one for a faculty member and one for a graduate student – are offered in each of the eight KCACTF regions, and the prize recognizes members whose work is an exemplar in innovative in theatre pedagogy. Perks of the prize winners include a yearlong membership to ATHE and conference registration as well as a shiny plaque. And who wouldn’t want a shiny plaque? If you know someone in your KCACTF region who is deserving of the prize, nominate them by contacting me or your regional KCACTF chair. Self-nominations are encouraged and accepted.
Related to KCACTF, I’d also love to hear from you if you’d be interested in leading a “Get to Know ATHE” (or another, more creative title – still in progress!) session at your regional festival in 2020.
In the coming months, I also hope to reach out to other organizations like ATHE to see how we might collaborate and join forces for the good of theatre pedagogy, scholarship, and artistry in higher education. To that end, I’d also love to hear from you. If you have suggestions, questions, or ideas related to outreach, please get in touch.
