Attention ATHE members! Theatre Topics’ special issue “Theatre and/as Education” will be in your mailbox soon. This special issue of Topics attempts to challenge some of the disciplinary divides between theatre studies, performance studies, and theatre education; it also celebrates and engages with the excellent interdisciplinary work that is being done with theatre pedagogy and math, cognitive science, hip hop, religion, and activism, among others.

Contributions include the following authors and essays:

  • Matt Omasta and Andrew Chappell’s “Theatre Education in the Academy: Major Impacts of Minor Differences”
  • Roxannne Schroeder-Arce’s “Seeking Culturally Responsive Pedagogical Practice: Teaching as Ally across Identity Markers in the University Setting”
  • Jane Barnette’s “Embracing the ‘Foggy Place’ of Theatre History: The Chautauqua/Colloquia Model of Public Scholarship as Performance”
  • Daniel Banks’ “Hip Hop as Pedagogy: Something from Something”
  • Peter Zazzali and Jeanne Klein’s “Toward Revising Undergraduate Theatre Education”
  • Kareem Khubchandani’s “Lessons in Drag: An Interview with LaWhore Vagistan”
  • Gerald Large’s “Theatrical Physicality, the Gross-Out Zombie and Michael Chekhov Technique.”

This will also be the first time that Theatre Topics is including on-line only content, a provocative Note from the Field by Rob Roznowski’s “Transforming Actor Education in the Digital Age.”

Stay tuned to the ATHE Facebook page and Theatre Topics’ new Facebook page for further details.

All my best and happy reading!
