Welcome to our focus group! We are delighted to share this space with all faculty members, administrators, staff members, students, alumni, and other higher education folks interested in design, technology, and management.

Mission Statement

The Design, Technology, and Management (DTM) Focus Group provides a forum within ATHE that addresses the current and future needs and concerns of theatre educators interested in strengthening the relationship between theatre design, technology, management, and other areas of theatrical scholarship and production. We strive to provide opportunities for the active exchange of historical and theoretical explorations, pedagogical approaches, and production experiences among designers, technicians, administrators, and management. We remain dedicated to fostering the spirit of collaboration in our efforts to create and teach the art of theatre.

Programming & Activities

DTM sponsors single- and multi-disciplinary sessions at ATHE's annual national conference.

Each year during the ATHE conference, we host an annual business meeting, during which DTM members gather to nominate new leaders, brainstorm conference programming, and plan other activities.

Almost every year, DTM members plan an excursion to a local performance venue, museum, archive, or other interesting site. Have a suggestion for next year's field trip? Email the DTM leadership team (below).

Our members often collaborate with the ATHE's New Play Workshops, for which they generate design materials for new plays-in-progress.
