Call for Submissions 2015 Pre Conference 0 S. Bremer, University of Minnesota, Morris ATHE Acting and Directing Programs Pre-Conference July 29th and 30th, 2015 Montréal, Québec, Canada Fairmont, the Queen Elizabeth Hotel "Best Practices in Auditioning & Casting” – Call for Submissions The Acting and Directing Programs of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) seek proposals for presentations, round-table discussions, workshops, and visual presentations for our Pre-Conference exploring Auditioning and Casting. Following the success of our first pre-conference in "Best Practices in Teaching Beginning Acting," and last year’s “Best Practices for Teaching Beginning Directing,” we will explore moments of first contact between actors and directors and consider issues of representation and codes of professionalization. Our focus on auditioning and casting mobilizes vital conversations from both sides of the audition experience and we encourage participatory exercise to investigate new approaches. This shared programming in the pre-conference allows exchange between our members, who are frequently interested in both focus groups, but unable to attend business meetings or sponsored sessions for both due to conflicting schedules. Those wishing to apply should email 150-250 word abstracts that include the applicant’s name, rank, academic affiliation, address, telephone, email, presentation format (interactive demonstration, presentation, roundtable discussion, or workshop), title of presentation, and a brief description of the paper, panel or presentation. Please include any special technology needs in your abstract such as PowerPoint, audio or video. Please note that technology accommodations can be extremely limited during the pre-conference. Individual and co-presentation sessions will last approximately 50 minutes. Deadline for submissions: May 15, 2015 Please send submissions electronically as MS Word or PDF files to BOTH: Veronda Carey, verondacarey30@gmail.com & Boone Hopkins, boone.hopkins@converse.edu
