Brainstorming Ideas for Conference 2021
Hello all,
I am posting the brainstorming ideas that were brought up in the second Acting Program Business Meeting. Please use this forum to both post ideas and make connections with others who share similar panel interests.
Here are the ideas brought forward at the meeting:
1) Ellen Maranek is interested in a panel that would be a gathering of data of how online teaching went. Practical exercises that worked remotely.
2) Ellen Maranek is interested on a panel that offers a debriefing of Decentering work - what worked, what didn't. Artemis Preeshl: accountability groups that compare and contrasts successes and failures in decolonizing the acting studio.Jenny Lamb: connecting with Artemis' idea, but in Decolonizing the acting department as a whole. Brendon Fox likes this idea.
3) Valerie Pye offered that some panels will need to address all the different modalities. “landscape is shifting under our feet” We need this scholarship more than ever.
4) Sonya Moore is interested in learning more about hybrid work - another area for scholarship. This may be more of a discourse over the year than a panel.
5) Evi Stamatiou and Diego Villada – Decentering Exercises in the Acting Studio
6) Jenny Lamb: Keeping theatre "local." How do we encourage our students to put their training to use in their state. How do we encourage our artists to stay and amplify their community? (Hillary H. Bucs thinks this would make a good M/D panel)
7) April Sigman-Marx - What is a Theatre or a Stage? Ellen M added: How globally accessible Zoom Theatre is. (Hillary thinks this would be a good M/D)
8) Imagination
9) Fabio Polanco and Jim Bray: Confronting and managing resistance to anti-racist and inclusive practices (Jenny Lamb and Evi maybe interested as well)
10) Gerritt brought forth this idea, but is open to someone else running with it: He'd be interested to learn what graduating acting classes of 2020 will be doing over the next 12 months to survive creatively, etc. and how we can use this information to inform our "Theatre as a Profession" courses.
11) Evi Stamatiou: How to teach acting for screen, especially how to move on set. Ellen Maraneck is interested in this. (Not clear if Evi and Ellen are interested to see this or be on the panel)
12) Ellen M: What we learn as Theatre Majors and how it helps us get jobs ... any jobs (Hillary says this would be a good M/D with TLA)
