JANE CHAMBERS PLAYWRITING CONTEST 2008

FRIENDS OF JANE CHAMBERS

We welcome donations—however small or large—to the Jane Chambers Contest. Indeed, we need your help to sustain this popular, influential award!

Giving can come at any and every level:—

  • $10 or $1000 ($50 or $5000!)
  • Monies earmarked for sponsoring the Playwright Reception or In-Kind Donations of Food/Wine
  • Private giving or Institutional Giving
  • In-kind donation of copying, print, development or mail services: particularly if you are based in the city where we receive the plays in a given year, or host the reading!

If you know that you would like to make a targeted donation of a particular amount, please send a check made out to WTP earmarked for the Jane Chambers Award, and mail it with the attached giving form by July 15, 2009, sent to:

Or you can contact Maya Roth <mer46@georgetown.edu> to discuss various levels of giving and this year’s incoming gifts. You will receive a tax-letter for your tax-deductible gift within a month of your donation. (We regret that we cannot afford a credit card-giving link to our website, however we are a fully volunteer organization.)

Our goal is to raise $5000 annually to fully support both Jane Chambers Contest and return the primary award amount to $1000. Our costs include the awards for the top winners of the Primary and Student Contests, the readings of both plays, a reception, hosting a respondent and performers, and administering the costs of running the contest itself (copying plays, mailing scripts to jurors across the country, creating publicity).

As for so many arts organizations, private giving and foundation grants have markedly diminished in our slowing economy, while submissions have stayed numerous. The work of this exceptional contest remains—for we honor top feminist plays, with no particular technical requirements, and excellent roles for female performers.
