ATHE Leadership Institute ® Keynote Speakers and Leaders

The ATHE Leadership Institute ® is pleased to announce the participation of these outstanding keynote speakers and institute faculty.

George Siemens, a leading figure on the future of technology-based learning, will present the opening keynote address, to both educate us and to provoke us to think more deeply about where emerging educational technology trends will take higher education generally and our field more specifically.

On Wednesday, July 31 panelists Jake Pinholster, Arizona State University; Cindy Bates, Empire State College; and Dan Carter, Penn State University, will respond to George Siemens’ Tuesday keynote and discussion about technology and academia. These theatre leaders will share their successes and challenges in working with emerging learning technologies. The panelists will discuss examples of theatre faculty and programs adapting some of these technologies and other innovative teaching and learning strategies for theatre in higher education.

Marlene Ross, longtime faculty member of the Institute and retired director of the American Council on Education’s Fellows Program, will lead the participants through small group and interactive examples of how to deal with the challenges and
opportunities in higher education. She will also provide one-on-one career consultations during the workshop.

John C. Hitt, President of the University of Central Florida, will give the Thursday luncheon address. In his more than twenty years as University of Central Florida (UCF) President, Hitt planned and won approval for a new college of medicine, increased the number of doctoral degrees awarded each year by sevenfold, and expanded research funding from $6.2 million to more than $121 million per year.
