BTN/ATHE Collaboration

The Black Theatre Network (BTN) and ATHE are collaborating once again to make attendance at each organization’s conference easy and cost-effective. This year, any BTN member paying to attend the ATHE conference, July 24 - 27 in Scottsdale, Arizona, can qualify to attend the BTN Conference in New York, August 1 - 4 on a complimentary basis. Check off the BTN membership and the box for attending the BTN conference in New York, August 1 - 4 when you register and pay the ATHE conference fee. You will qualify for a free registration at the BTN conference. ATHE will forward the list of attending members at the ATHE conference to the BTN office. BTN members registering to attend the BTN conference should contact that office for information about complimentary registration.

Registration Cancellation

The registration fee will be refunded, minus a $40 administrative cancellation fee, if notice is received by email or fax by July 19th. All cancellations must be in writing; phone cancellations are not accepted. Refunds for workshops will be offered only if the event is cancelled or is filled at the time your registration is received.

Organizational Registration Fees

To qualify for the Organizational Registration fees, the institution must be an ATHE organizational member. The registration fees listed are by 1st registrant, 2nd, etc. For example, if you are sending four participants, the first person will pay $390; all other registrants pay $290 each. The additional registrants do not have to pay for individual ATHE membership to qualify for this reduced rate.

Send Two, Bring One Graduate Student Free!

For the second year, any organizational member that registers two or more people to attend the conference qualifies for one free student registration. The graduate student joins or renews ATHE membership, then registers for the conference, and pays the fee ($175). The fee will be refunded to the graduate student after the conference. One institutional membership with organizational registration fees and one additional registrant (no membership fee) = $945. If that additional person did NOT register under the Organizational member package, then s/he would pay a total of $ 465 ($150 membership + $315 registration) instead of $290. The savings is $175 for each additional organizational registrant.

For ATHE student members interested in applying for a Fellowship Fund Grant, please submit a letter requesting this grant to fellowships@athe.org. You must be registered for the conference and be an ATHE student member. Fellowships are provided on a first come, first served basis. Fellowship recipients are asked to provide three and a half (3.5) hours of volunteer assistance during the conference. This will be divided into a half-hour of training and a three-hour volunteer shift. Recipients will be notified prior to the conference in order to schedule their hours. Fellowship recipients should check-in at the Conference registration desk to confirm their volunteer schedules.

Conference Mentor Program

Are you a new ATHE member? A graduate student attending your first conference? When you register, be sure to check the “I WANT a mentor” box. ATHE will match you with an ATHE member with experience in conference attendance as well as ideas to share about different disciplines in theatre in higher education.For experienced ATHE conference attendees, please consider checking the box “I want to BE a mentor.” You can provide a very important connection to new ATHE members or new conference attendees by communicating before the conference, attending the Orientation to the Conference session with your mentee, and generally providing a “way in” to this overwhelming educational experience.

What does it mean to be a Mentor? It means
  1. emailing with your mentee before the conference;
  2. attending the Thursday Orientation to the Conference session with your mentee, or any other session that you can schedule to attend together;
  3. sharing wisdom and insights about your experience working in theatre in higher education and the value of your ATHE membership.
