A message from the President: Forum Announcement

Dear ATHE Members,

For many of us, this has been a challenging year and one that changed, intensified or made us question our work as artists, scholars and advocates. As ATHE goes forward in the coming years, we would love to know the challenges you are facing and how we might support you.

At the conference, at 12:30 PM on Saturday August 5, before the business meeting, we will hold a 45-minute forum. We realize it is a short time, but we want to hear your voices. Many of us have found conferences one of the few places that we can be co-present and listen to each other’s concerns in real time. Below are our questions for discussion. Please feel free to bring your own as well. If you are not attending the conference, please feel free to email me at president@athe.org, so that we might consider your concerns in relation to the questions below:

What are the greatest challenges you are facing in your own institutions? How are you meeting those challenges?

What realities are you facing in terms of funding and institutional support?

How are you supporting students? How are students reacting to the present moment in your classrooms and in their academic and creative work?

How might ATHE support you in your work in the future?

How would you like to continue these discussions in future conferences and meetings?

Thank You,

Patricia Ybarra
ATHE President

Working Well I and II: Two Linked Professional Development Workshops for Faculty across Focus Groups

The American Theatre and Drama Society (ATDS) and ATHE’s Professional Development Committee are delighted to announce two linked in-conference faculty development workshops at the upcoming ATHE Conference in Las Vegas. These gatherings, held on Friday, August 4 from 2:15 PM - 3:45 PM and Saturday, August 5 from 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM, will provide ATHE members with a space to discuss issues related to their professional development with invited mentors from across ATHE’s focus groups. At Session I (Friday) topics and participants will be introduced, readings discussed, and participants will be paired with appropriate mentors. Session II (Saturday) will offer individual mentoring. Pertinent articles related to professional development will be sent out prior to the workshop and made available to observers at the sessions.

ATHE members of all backgrounds and institutional affiliations (part-time/full-time faculty, non-tenure and tenure track, early-career, mid-career) are all invited to apply.

There is no fee for workshop participation. Sessions will be open to all ATHE Conference attendees. Drop-ins are welcome!

Questions? Contact Session Coordinators Anne Fletcher afletch@siu.edu and Stuart Hecht stuart.hecht@bc.edu and/or Amy Hughes profdev@athe.org.
