The purpose of the Black Theatre Network is to expose the beauty and complexity of Black life, in America and throughout the African Diaspora. We celebrate and perpetuate the theatrical vision and expertise of our ancestors and share it with the world. As we move into the 21st century, we strive to both broaden and strengthen our work and help to support Black Theatre locally and globally. We seek to unite those who share the rich inheritance of our ancestors and ensure that we are alive and thriving as we work together to use our art to create a better world.
Founded in 1989, the National Black Theatre Festival seeks to unite black theatre companies in America and ensure the survival of the genre into the next millennium. Held biennially, NBTF attracts more than 60,000 people during the six-day event.
