Design, Technology, and Management

For more information about the Design and Technology Focus Group, click here to send an e-mail to the Design and Technology leadership.

The Design and Technology Focus Group offers forums for free exchange of ideas, precepts and practice. In these forums, we relate our teaching methods, stay abreast of this fast-changing world of information technology, dissect our professional design work, and share our passions for teaching student designers and technicians. We are currently initiating collaboration with the New Play Workshops that will occur annually at the conference site.

Ashley M. Bellet, University of Wisconsin-Madison wrote on the Focus Groups A-D: Design, Tech, Management wall: Looking for Panelists: I have some ideas and I'd love to see where the general interest lies. If any of these specifically speaks to you, please email me! One big thing for me is the divergence of design/tech from theory, especially as it relates to communication and research. Another topic I considered was a discussion of how design/tech professors can serve/instigate interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary courses and projects. A third idea is an interest in how we teach the history of theatre design to our young designers, and why we (or why we don't) prioritize it in our curriculums. Finally, in keeping with the conference's focus, we could assemble a discussion about how protest/resistance theatre in its physical form affects designers (found space, the likelihood of last minute changes, destruction of materials, etc) What do you think? I'm leaning toward the first and last, but have substantial interest in the others too! Best, Ashley
