Get Involved
Whether you’ve been a member for a while, or you’re a new member, or you’re interested in joining, there are many ways for you to get involved in the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
ATHE is an all-volunteer organization; we rely on members just like you to make our organization strong. We invite you to get involved! Join a focus group or a governing council committee.
Focus Groups
Focus groups are groups of ATHE members, each of which is organized around an area of interest in theatre arts and studies. By affiliating with a focus group, you meet others of like minds (other directors or acting professors, for instance) and enrich your experience within ATHE.
Governing Council
The Governing Council is the governing body of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
The Governing Council comprises the offices of the President, President Elect, Past President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Vice Presidents of Advocacy, Awards, Conference (both for the current and the following year), Membership & Marketing, Professional Development, and Research & Publications.
The work of the Governing Council is done by committees headed by each of the officers. All members of ATHE can join a governing council committee.
Five members-at-large serve on the council: the Liaison to the Focus Group Representatives, the Liaison to the Operations Committee, the Liaison to the Finance Committee, and the Member-at-Large for Outreach.
Focus group representatives join the Governing Council at meetings each year to help shape the administrative policies of the organization.
Affiliate Members
ATHE established its affiliate membership category as a way of formalizing liaisons with allied organizations, and of strengthening our network of theatre-oriented organizations.
