Awards Committee

The ATHE Awards Committee is responsible for coordinating nine prestigious awards that recognize excellence in educational and professional theatre. These include awards for Outstanding Book; Outstanding Article in a Journal; Outstanding Editing; the Jane Chambers Playwriting Award; the David Mark Cohen Playwriting Award; the Career Achievement Awards in Professional Theatre and Educational Theatre; the Outstanding Teacher of Theatre in Higher Education; and awards given in conjuction with the National Student Playwriting contest co-sponsored with the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival.

Nominations in each area are reviewed and voted upon by sub-committees composed of a small group of ATHE members. The two Career Achievement Awards are reviewed and voted upon by the Chairs of the Sub-committees and one representative from the Focus Groups. The Awards are presented in a ceremony at the annual National Conference each August.
