Fredrick J. Rubeck is currently serving ATHE on the Governing Council as the Member-at-Large for Operations.  He is also the FGR for the Playwrights and Creative Teams focus group.  Additionally, he serves on the Conference Committee for NYC and the Strategic Planning Committee.  He is also an active member of the North Carolina Theatre Conference, the Southeastern Theatre Conference

Fred is Associate Professor and Department Chair of Performing Arts at Elon University in North Carolina. He teaches acting, directing, playscript analysis and senior seminar.  Fred came to Elon in 1988 to begin building what is now the Department of Performing Arts. Over the years, he has directed many productions at Elon, including A Midsummer Night's Dream, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The Crucible, The Music Man, You Can't Take It With You, Macbeth, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Our Town and The Bacchae, to name a few.  He earned his BFA in acting & directing at Illinois Wesleyan University and his MFA in directing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

A working professional director of nearly 100 productions throughout the United States and the UK, Fred has directed at Cape Fear Regional Theatre in North Carolina, Lakes Regions Summer Theatre in New Hampshire, and the Findlay Summerstock Theatre in Ohio. He was one of the founding partners of The Occasional Acting Company in North Carolina, served on the board of directors for the Nebraska Directors' Theatre and as the president of the Gallery Players, Inc. in North Carolina.

Other regional credits include The Mule Barn Theatre in Missouri, The Nebraska Repertory Theatre, The Nebraska Theatre Caravan, The Repertory Company (all in Nebraska) and The Summer Company and the Genoa-Kinston Summerstock Theatre in Illinois.

Fred's play Crackers has been produced at London's Pentameters Theatre and Brentwood Theatre, and other locations throughout the Southeast. His eight other plays have been produced throughout the Midwest and Southeast.
