James HatfieldJames A. Hatfield is Professor and Director of Theatre at The University of Texas at Tyler. He was honored by The University of Texas System's Chancellor's Council with the Outstanding Teaching Award and has been elected President of the Faculty Senate. Previous employment includes Director of Theatre and Department Chair positions at Jackson State University, Butler University, and Director of Design at Oakland University.

Teaching disciplines include theatre history, design, stage direction, and arts management and administration. He has directed international theatre travel studies to England, Ireland, Scotland, Austria, Germany, Italy, France and Canada over a fourteen year period. He received his Ph. D. from Wayne State University where he became active in KCACTF as a student. He served KCACTF as a faculty adjudicator, Texas State Chair, hosted two regional and two state festivals and has directed productions selected for regional festivals including Oleanna and Vincent in Brixton.

Recently elected as the first Member-at-Large for Outreach, his previous experience in ATHE governance included serving on the Governing Council and as Forum representative from Professional Artists and Management Exchange. He was a member of the Chicago Conference Planning Committee and was a Finance Committee representative for two terms. He has served several terms as Focus group representative for Theatre Management.
