Theatre as a Liberal Art Focus Group:

1. promotes theatre as an integral, interdisciplinary component of the higher education experience;

2. articulates the significance of theatre as a discipline in the arts and humanities that intentionally reflects the human experience, in ways such as:

• celebrating the human spirit
• examining historical contexts
• exploring global as well as local communities
• reflecting on cultural identities
• reflecting on self identity
• utilizing interdisciplinarity

3. supports members' pedagogical and professional growth and development;

4. fosters collegiality and facilitates the exchange of ideas both pedagogical and practical among its members and the academic community through:

• electronic dialogue and circulation of resources
• mentorship
• social interaction

Those interested in teaching any area of theatre with emphasis on its central value as a humanistic discipline or who work in smaller programs will find enthusiastic and supportive colleagues in this group.
