The Senior Theatre Research and Performance Focus Group is part of a growing International movement of theatre for, by, and about Senior Citizens including grassroots community based groups in community and retirement centers with recreational and therapeutic objectives, non-credit learning in retirement, and college and university based programs for seniors studying theatre arts and practitioners working with senior theatre. Academic programs encompass playwriting and actor training, and mount reader’s theatre, revues, standard drama, oral history and research based plays from the physical and social sciences on aging. The focus group provides networking and outreach, offering panels on current topics, scholarly research, workshops, and performances by senior theatre groups across the country.
