Syllabus Bank

As a tool for promoting the teaching of African American theatre and drama, BTA is building a syllabus bank—which we hope will grow into a helpful resource for educators planning college courses.  Click on the name of a course below to download the syllabus as a PDF file.

African American Theatre History, contributed by C. Patrick Tyndall.

•  African American Theatre and Drama, contributed by Kathryn M. Ervin.

•  African American Theater and Culture, contributed by Melinda Wilson.

•  Modern Drama: Realism and Naturalism, contributed by Jonathan Shandell.
(Note: approximately one-third of this syllabus is dedicated to realism and naturalism in African American drama.)

We hope this syllabus bank will continue to grow in the future.  We welcome contributions to the bank of syllabi for any course related to the fields of African American theater, drama and performance. To submit your syllabus, please email it as an attached MS Word or PDF file to Jonathan Shandell, BTA Secretary (jonathan.shandell@nyu.edu).
